The Piggery sits next to the owners’ Farmhouse, in the beautiful, peaceful Downland village of Sutton. There are some distinct nods to the building’s agricultural past, in the form of the original oak beams and the newer oak flooring – but we don’t think the previous curly-tailed occupants would be at all happy with the stunning makeover that this Grade listed building has received! It is immaculately tasteful, and utterly spotless. Farrow & Ball colours, sensitively used, bring their characteristic serenity to the whole of this space.
The kitchen diner is furnished with pale grey cabinetry offset by reclaimed pine shelving – a farmhouse table and chairs mean this space works brilliantly for quiet kitchen suppers. The 22ft long sitting room is similarly well furnished, with comfortable sofas and reclaimed furniture.
The bedrooms are calm, relaxing spaces – both have king-sized beds and ensuite facilities. Outside there is a private garden, along with a terrace sheltered by vines, (and a barbecue). Enjoy evenings here around the table, and the only thing that may disturb the murmur of alfresco conversation is the occasional hoot of an owl; such is the tranquility of this lovely village.
A great pub, just a hundred yards away, means you can easily enjoy a short break here and never leave! But the more adventurous (or energetic), might be pleased to know that all of the delights of this part of the South Downs are within very easy reach.

The Piggery at Sutton Court Farmhouse is tucked away in the small, pretty Downland village of Sutton. The village’s pub, The White Horse Inn, has recently reopened and is no more than a short stumble away.
Sutton is broadly equidistant from Pulborough (6 miles), whose station can whisk you to London Victoria in just over an hour, an Petworth (5 miles), which is a wonderful country town to explore for antiques, boutiques, and the imposing National Trust Petworth House, a destination in itself thanks to grand rooms, a wonderful art collection, and Capability Brown designed parkland. The Petworth Festival attracts visitors to the area in July.
The Goodwood Estate, famed for its horseracing and motor circuit, is within easy reach, as are Cowdray for polo and the beaches of the south coast including the stunning sandy dunes of West Wittering.

Food & drink
The options for eating in or eating out are endless here, and really just a question of how far you want to travel! If you’re happy to cook for yourself, then Charlie’s Farm Shop offers a wonderful selection of delicious local produce, including locally farmed meat.
The area is renowned for its pubs – a short walk will take you to the White Horse Inn, while slightly further afield the Horseguards Inn, Tillington, or the Welldiggers Arms, just outside Petworth, both of which offer great food and a very friendly but informal setting. The New Street Grill in Petworth is slightly smarter. Goodwood offers a range of restaurants – Farmer Butcher Chef being the newest and most notable. Chichester and Guildford offer a whole host of cuisines from tapas to Asian fusion.
