Whether you are here to explore the South Downs National Park, immerse yourself in a book, paint, write or snuggle up and watch a film next to the fire, you will feel very relaxed in this calming setting. This delightful converted barn in the garden of an old Tudor house, doubles as a working art studio and gallery when guests are not staying, giving it a very special personality.
The owner is an artist and interior designer and can even give you an art lesson or two. Outside, you have your own dining area overlooking the countryside views, a BBQ for the balmy summer days and access to the Tudor house’s adjacent swimming pool. The Art Barn is accessed through the stable yard and is arranged all on one floor with the two bedrooms at each end. Complete with a freestanding Victorian claw footed bath and a gold sink to wash your paint brushes in, this really is the most inspiring of retreats.

The Art Barn is in a very rural location just north of Liphook. Although the Retreat is just outside the county of Sussex, it was just too special not to include it. It is set on the very edge of the South Downs National Park, a spectacular part of the English countryside. Although not right on the sea, you can still get to the Sussex coast in around 30 minutes. The closest train station is Liphook or Haslemere and by car its only one hour from London.
Things to do
Food & drink The Rising Sun in Milland is a great spot for lunch or a drink. The Duke of Cumberland in Fernhurst is famous locally for its roast lunches on Sundays as well as having wonderful views from outside. Closer to the Retreat you have the Deer’s Hut in Liphook.
To do You are spoilt for choice with The Jane Austen House museum, Farnborough’s Air Show, Hewshott riding stables, Watts Art Gallery. There are an array of National Trust properties on the doorstep including, The Devil’s Punchbowl, Petworth House and Park, Uppark House and gardens. Alternatively, you can walk straight out of the barn and onto bridle -paths which stretch for miles and lead you to Ludshott common. Be sure to pack your welly boots!
Such a beautiful place, the views out to the paddocks and gorgeous country garden are special and it felt so peaceful. A little slice of heaven only one hour from London. The Art Barn is extremely cosy and comfortable and decorated to a very high standard. It is equipped with everything you need for a night or two away. We cannot wait to return!
We have just returned from a last-minute getaway to the Art Barn with Cabins and Castles, and we had an absolutely amazing weekend. The welcome we received from Georgea and her lovely family was second to none, and the cabin itself was absolutely stunning. Very peaceful and relaxing with beautiful country walks literally on the doorstep. Will definitely be back, and will be recommending it to anyone that will listen.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in The Art Barn. We were greeted with a warm welcome from our effervescent owner who showed us to our very comfortable accommodation.
We really enjoyed an evening stroll before a very quiet night’s sleep.
All in all a very pleasant evening in the country and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
