Driftwood Beach House
Pagham Beach, West Sussex | Sleeps 7 | Bedrooms 3 | Parking: Yes | Wi-Fi: Yes
From £200 per night (minimum stay varies from 2-3 nights)
Cosy, supremely comfortable, and overlooking the beach and sea in the historic village of Pagham – Driftwood Beach House is the perfect spot for a beachside holiday with family or friends. The house itself is partly made from a converted 1900’s railway carriage, so enjoy the sense of nostalgia as you sleep beneath the curved ceilings of the carriage compartments.
The only thing ‘third class’ about this accommodation though is the name on the carriage side! The bedrooms are simply, beautifully furnished in an all-white theme that is restful and serene, while the accessories and styling reference both the building’s past and the property’s seaside location. Everything is beautifully curated from the rope mirror to the driftwood candle holder and the stripy deckchairs on the veranda.
The real wow factor here has to be the location. Step out of your front door and directly onto Pagham’s beautiful beach. At low tide there is plenty of sand for castle-building and soaking up the sun – or borrow the double kayak thoughtfully provided and take a tour of the calm, sheltered waters below. With a beach café on your doorstep, Sonos music system, BBQ for warm evenings and woodburner for chillier ones, you need never leave this little slice of heaven.

Pagham is a beautiful Sussex seaside village, directly south of Chichester, and along the coast from the Witterings and Selsey Bill. Open the back gate of Driftwood and you are on the beach itself, with its gentle shingle slope to the sea. The sleepy village offers a café, ice-cream parlour and a penny amusement arcade! Pagham also offers a beautiful ancient harbour, with sheltered waters that are perfect for children, and the famous Pagham Harbour RSPB nature reserve. Chichester, the Goodwood Estate, and Portsmouth are all within easy reach. The drive from London takes around 1.5 hours.
Things to do
Food & drink
Don’t miss the fish & chips from the traditional shop in Pagham, or sampling some of the other pubs in and around the village, all of which offer good food. Only slightly further afield you can find the Crab and Lobster (a pleasant 40 minute walk around picturesque Pagham Harbour), or the Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay, which has a wonderful outdoor terrace and kitchen with views of the comings and goings on the water. Chichester offers a range of cuisines, and the highlight of the Goodwood Estate’s culinary offer has to be Farmer, Butcher, Chef – a restaurant that uses the best of the estate’s produce in the most sustainable way possible.
Pagham offers lots of traditional seaside bucket and spade fun, with the lovely beach, calm sea, ice cream parlour and arcade. For a more active seaside experience head out on the double kayak that comes with the property, or head over to the nearby Pagham Yacht Club for some sailing. In land, Chichester offers cultural delights such as the Festival Theatre, Pallant House Gallery, and Cathedral, as well as a cinema, bowling alley and shopping. Portsmouth is a short drive and boasts the Historic Dockyard, with its prize attraction, the Mary Rose. Driftwood Beach House is also very well placed for Goodwood, with horse-racing, motor racing, an aerodrome, golf course and world-class events taking place throughout the season.
Driftwood Beach House exceeded all our expectations. A magical position, directly on the beach front with every home comfort you could wish for. Amenities a short stroll away which meant we didn’t use our car at all. We were a party of 3 adults, 3 kids and a puppy and it was big enough for us. I just wish we had stayed longer.
This beach house is absolutely perfect and the location is amazing, we could sit for hours and watch the sea. The house itself is finished to a very high standard and is so lovely and quirky being a partly disused train carriage which we all loved, especially the children. Everything was very thought out for guests to have a perfect stay, blankets, teas and coffees, sonos speakers, board games and even a hamper on arrival.
What a wonderful time we had! Beautiful venue, perfect decor. Thank you so much for the treats too.
We’ve had a wonderful time being right on the beach. the chiminea is amazing to toast marshmallows. Amazing stay. Thank you.
What a beautiful place! Such a fabulous location (on the beach), and extremely well equipped. Driftwood had everything we needed for an amazing weekend beside the sea. Jonathan, the owner, was extremely helpful from start to finish and available to answer any questions we had. We’re going to book again soon before it gets too popular – thank you! We would highly recommend The Lamb Inn for a great Sunday lunch! Friendly staff and only a 20 min walk from Driftwood. Great stay and the kayak was great fun!
We really enjoyed staying at this gorgeous beach house. The house is absolutely fantastic, extremely well equipped, cosy and almost magical! Situated right on the beach – the location was just perfect. I would recommend Driftwood for a great beach holiday.
