Collecting fallen leaves and carving pumpkins – ideas for an Autumn escape.

 

With warmer coats, feather filled duvets and log fires all starting to appear, this makes it the perfect time to check out some of our cosy cottages as we approach the Autumnal break.

Little rituals like collecting falling leaves, playing with conkers and carving pumpkins become an annual tradition. This half term there is so much to do, you can follow a bat trail and build a bat box at Petworth House. Get those wellies on, run free and crunch through the autumn leaves at Standen. or explore further down into the woods on a geocaching trail and locate the hidden treasures they call ‘Geocaches.’

With wellies at the ready, comfy hoodies and fluffy socks. We have the cosiest of cottages ready and waiting for you. Just think of exposed beams, log burning stoves and views of the countryside, these are a handful of the features that make these properties perfect for an autumn getaway. Rural retreats, romantic breaks and family escapes can all be appreciated at any of our super cosy cottages.

In the picturesque village of Appledore lies ‘The Outbuilding Appledore.’ A luxury self-catering retreat, that is perfect as a romantic bolthole or cosy family getaway. This little piece of heaven is full of character, with its reclaimed furniture that sits side by side with modern kitchen appliances, a cosy log burner, for after those long invigorating walks. A roll top bath to help you unwind and relax, a scrumptious king size bed that you’ll just want to fall into, along with wonderful prints that adorn the industrial brick feature wall.
A short drive away, is the quaint town of Rye, where you can look forward to the 48th Annual Arts Festival and the Country Market, allowing you to stock up on lots of delicious treats. The dunes of Camber Sands, and Romney Marsh are all within reach.

Overlooking the beach and sea in the village of Pagham — Driftwood Beach House is the perfect spot to step out of your front door directly onto a beautiful beach, perfect for a holiday making memories with family and friends.

This beautifully crafted unique house is made from a converted 1900’s railway carriage. The curved ceilings of the carriage compartments adorn the bedrooms, whilst your view takes you to the beautiful beach of Pagham. With coastal to rural there’s an vast array of landscape to explore on foot from Pagham, with amazing uplifting fresh air and views.

Don’t forget Arundel Castle, definitely worth a visit, with its 1000 years of history, magnificent gardens and the big climb up to the Keep, the views of the River Arun, the sea, the town and the Downs are definitely worth the effort. Or our local National Trust, Petworth House and Park with its abundance of heritage, the 700 acre parkland that is home to a herd of over 900 fallow deer and lots of awesome Autumnal fun to keep everyone entertained.

Think of the film ‘Holiday,’ with the snow falling and Kate Winslet placed within her beautiful chocolate box cottage. Here is Bosham Cottage with flint walls, thatched roof, cosy sofas and woodburning stove. Just perfect after that fresh autumnal walk, only 10 minutes from the water, returning to the cosiness of a crackling fire and a cup of hot tea.

Bosham is a quayside village steeped in history and situated six miles from East Head by boat. The National Trust owned meadow has spectacular views across the harbour. East Head has something for everyone, it is a great place to play, run, walk, take the dog, wildlife watching, water sports (possibly in warmer seasons) and fishing.

If you’re looking to visit the local area, you can visit Goodwood House and take a tour of the State Apartments, enjoy an afternoon of sandwiches, cakes, and of course traditional English scones, all being served in the magnificent Goodwood House Ballroom. Whilst currently running is ‘The Chichester Festival Theatre,’ with a host of amazing productions and talent for everyone, including the younger ones.
