Bosham Cottage

Bosham, West Sussex | Sleeps 4 | Bedrooms 2 | Parking: Yes | Wi-Fi: Yes

From £100 per night (2 -3 night minimum stay)

Description

Bosham Cottage is pure chocolate box on the outside – think flint walls and a thatched roof – while inside the owner has kept all of the many original features while creating a cool, calm oasis using pastel colours, reclaimed finds and bespoke furniture.

The cosy sofas and woodburning stove make this a haven on cooler days, while on warmer ones you can leave the stable door open and soak up the fresh air and views. The dining room features a unique table made from natural-edge oak. The kitchen is well-equipped and feels home-from-home – including a well-worn butchers block.

Upstairs the history of this home is even more apparent, thanks to more exposed beams and original wooden floorboards, carefully restored. The bathroom features a rolltop bath and a cleverly designed walk-in rain shower, panelled in cedar.

Although only a ten-minute walk from the water, the seaside references in the décor are subtle; a model boat here, a faded blue stripe there – but in every corner there is something charming and individual to enjoy. Bosham Cottage brings the best of Sussex countryside and seaside together in one idyllic package.

Things to do

Food & drink

This little corner of the South Coast is positively brimming with delightful waterside inns, cafes and restaurants. The nearest of the many local pubs is the Anchor Bleu, just a short walk away, and right on the Bosham harbourside – steeped in history and a magnet for visitors and locals alike. Slightly further afield the Crab & Anchor at Dell Quay has a large outside terrace overlooking the water and is thronged on sunny days, while the Boathouse in Chichester Harbour is more of a café & bar and attracts the sailing crowd as well as those exploring the Marina. Only a short drive away, Chichester offers a whole range of possibilities from the ‘nose to tail’ ethos of the wonderful Farmer, Butcher, Chef on the Goodwood Estate, to Thai food at the Giggling Squid.

To do

Bosham is so picturesque that just taking the time to soak up the atmosphere is a must; some crabbing at low tide always goes down well with younger visitors, too. Bosham Sailing Club provides plenty of entertainment, whether you prefer to get out on the water or just watch the comings and goings from dry land. Paddle boarding and kayaking are popular on this stretch of coast too, thanks to the range of sheltered inlets and harbours. West Wittering offers miles of sandy beach and sand dunes to explore. You can also hop on a small ferry to Itchenor all year around or take the harbour boat to Chichester Harbour.

Inland, Chichester is a cultural hub, with the modern art collection at Pallant House Gallery, the well-renowned Chichester Festival Theatre, Chichester Cathedral and exciting roman history to explore. Goodwood is also within easy reach and offers horse-racing, motor-racing and a whole range of other events throughout the season.

Reviews

A beautiful cottage set on the edge of a charming village with sweeping views of the countryside. Rebecca provided some fantastic local recommendations, and the whole family had a trip to remember fondly.

A beautiful cottage in an idyllic position within the village, easy to walk to the centre of Bosham plus pretty walks are on its doorstep. The cottage was very clean, beds comfortable and had everything that we needed, what more could we have asked for, nothing. I highly recommend this property and host Rebecca was very prompt in replying to messages.

Great cottage in a really nice area to visit. Beautiful view over the fields and a nice garden. Very close to a pub and an easy walk to Bosham Quay.

A gorgeous cottage for a lovely weekend getaway. We have a baby and toddler and found it was a real home from home and we could relax straight away. We enjoyed relaxing in the garden but also exploring the local area which was easy on foot and by car. The cottage it truly gorgeous , and everything of a very high standard and quality. It felt like a real treat staying there. Thank you Rebecca for being a great host and leaving us some welcome treats!

Charming cosy cottage with bundles of character and traditional features (although low beams so not for very tall people!). Very comfy beds and lovely bathroom. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout including milk and bread on arrival and a cupboard of staples such as olive oil, salt, pepper, spices etc so you don’t need to buy. Fantastic location in beautiful quiet Bosham which is great for walks and near Bosham Quay which is lovely. Also short drive from Chichester.
