Description
Just over the East Sussex border in Kent lies The Outbuilding Appledore in the picturesque village of Appledore. Lifestyle journalist Amy Maynard is responsible for the painstaking design and renovation of the building, now a luxury self-catering retreat, which sits in the garden of her family home. She has created a wonderfully unique space that design aficionados will love.
Perfect as a romantic bolthole or cosy family retreat, the Outbuilding is packed with clever design features such as the huge steel-framed doors that open on to a private patio area, vaulted ceilings in the open-plan kitchen and sitting room that give a wonderful feeling of space, and cleverly custom built, ‘snug as a bug’ bunk beds.
But it’s the styling that really lifts this wonderful space out of the ordinary. Reclaimed furniture sits side by side with modern kitchen appliances, the roll top bath is painted a delicious shade of pink, and wonderful prints enliven the industrial brick feature wall. The quaint town of Rye, sand dunes of Camber Sands, and Romney Marsh are all within reach, but with a log-burner, books galore, and a beautiful king-size bed with wonderful bedlinen, you may never want to leave.

Absolutely beautiful place, world-class design, luxurious amenities, very calm and relaxing, in a really lovely part of England. The owner was so accommodating, thank you again. Already can’t wait to return.
.We had a wonderful couple of days in staying at the beautiful and stylish The Outbuilding in Appledore, Kent. Zoe was helpful with our booking and in keeping us updated about our stay. There are a few other properties from Cabins and Castles that I’d love to stay at in the future!
The Outbuilding is absolutely beautifully done. It’s that wonderful combination of stylish yet effortless. We had absolutely everything we needed and genuinely couldn’t find one flaw! Particular highlights for us were: – The log burner – toasty! – The massive snuggly bed – The bath and shower both of which are very luxurious. – the outdoor space- it’s lovely having your own private deck whilst also having access to the family garden – our two year old loved roaming around. We had a wonderful stay here in a beautiful area – perfect for Camber and Rye and the surrounds. We were so comfy and cosy; just wish we could move in forever!
The owners at the Appledore were so friendly, welcoming and helpful. Their place is absolutely gorgeous and I would highly recommend a stay. Communication with Zoe was great. She was always there to answer any questions I had. I would definitely book again with Cabins and Castles. They have really lovely places/locations to stay and their service really helped to streamline the whole booking experience.
We used Cabins and Castles to find a holiday cottage. They have such an amazing range of fantastic properties and we booked The Outbuilding Appledore. It was the best self-catering place we have stayed in and Amy, the owner, and her family were lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. We had such a great holiday and will definitely be booking through Cabins and Castles again.
Can’t recommend The Outbuilding stay highly enough. Really stylish, comfortably, a roll top bath, a log fire and an excellent host. Nice location to escape the city.
Simply stunning. Amazing host and an incredible cottage. Every small detail has been thought of and styled to an incredible level. Lovely friendly family who made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend to all.
