Description

The Beach House is a newly renovated, super-stylish, coastal getaway – right on the beach on Hayling Island. Unassuming on the outside, but glorious on the inside, this upside-down house has been thoughtfully planned to provide everything that holiday guests could want, and easily has space for two large families (maybe more – sleeping 11 in five bedrooms). Step out of your door and the beach and sea are just at the end of your own private garden.

Downstairs the bedrooms are cleverly configured to provide two master bedrooms, both with sea views – one with a four-poster bed and a rolltop bath where you can lie and look over the sea to the Isle of Wight – as well as three further bedrooms including another king-sized room, one twin, and a triple bed family room. A snug and outdoor terrace complete this floor. Upstairs the large open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area, with another terrace, make the most of the stunning views across the Solent.

The interiors at the Beach House are relaxed coastal; think whitewashed timber cladding, a soft palette of blues and greys, and wooden floors. The owner has thought of everything when it comes to guests’ comfort; so while the décor is relaxed, the details are pure luxe. There is luxury bedlinen, a bean to cup coffee machine, superfast broadband, a sound system, huge dining table inside and more dining & lounging furniture outside on the terrace and balcony, too. There is even a space for drying wet wetsuits, and extra washing facilities for wet and sandy beach gear.

After a busy day at the beach or on the water, kick back on the huge sofas, enjoy the sea views, and enjoy a sociable evening with family and friends in the most stylish of spaces.

Location

Hayling Island is situated between Chichester Harbour and Portsmouth, near the Hampshire Sussex border, and linked to the mainland by means of a road bridge and ferry – which take you over to Langstone Harbour. It was originally all about fishing, farming and salt production, but since the 1930s has been a popular seaside destination, thanks to its three miles of pebbly and sandy beaches. The three main beaches on the Island all have a European Blue Flag and a Keep Britain Tidy Group Seaside Award Flag.

This is a brilliant destination for the whole family, with plenty of sport and leisure activities on offer – both on and off the water – as well as fun attractions for children and miles of walks and natural beauty.

The pretty market town of Emsworth, the cathedral town of Chichester, and bustling Portsmouth are all within easy reach. The nearest station is Havant, which has links to London Victoria and London Waterloo, as well as Portsmouth, Southampton and Brighton.

Things to do

Not surprisingly, there are wealth of water-based activities here in Hayling Island. In fact, it is recognised as being the birthplace of windsurfing! So if you’ve never tried windsurfing, kitesurfing, or SUP, this may be your opportunity. There are a number of water sports schools around the island that offer hire and tuition in all three sports. If you’re happier on the water than in it, then there is plenty of sailing available from Langstone Harbour, as well as 60 minute boat trips on the charmingly named ‘Rosie K’ that allow you to take in the area’s wildlife and scenery at your leisure.

There are plenty of land-based activities available too. Golfers will enjoy Tournerbury Golf Centre, which offers a floodlit driving range and a 9 hole course, welcomes families, and offers views of the sea and South Downs. Or the more serious golfers may prefer the 18 hole Hayling Golf Club links course.

Cyclists and walkers will love the Hayling Billy Trail, an off-road trail that follows the old railway line from Havant to Hayling – a five mile round trip which is blissfully flat, and offers brilliant views of Langstone Harbour. You can even horse-ride along it, too.

West Hayling Nature Reserve was once an oyster farm – in fact oyster farming on Hayling dates back to Roman times. Now wildlife has taken over and the salt flats provide the perfect breeding ground for a range of seabirds. There is a lovely circular walk where you can take it all in, and do some bird-spotting.

If you can drag them away from the beach, children will love a trip on the Hayling Seaside Steam Railway – and even more so if you ride with them to its final destination, Funland Amusement Park, which is complete with arcade and crazy golf, as well as plenty of rides for all ages.

Food & Drink

With miles of beach of offer, seaside dining is obviously the order of the day, here. Drifts, in the marina, is a fun place to enjoy a pizza, cocktails, or even a Sunday roast, while watching the boats coming and going. The Inn on the Beach offers pub classics, as well as a range of seafood, and is just two miles from The Beach House – its sun terrace is actually in the sea!

Of course a seaside holiday wouldn’t be complete without fish & chips; The Coastguard Café can oblige, and is just a 10 minute walk along the seafront from the house. Jasper’s Brasserie and Restaurant is where locals head for a delicious evening out – so do book ahead (its only open 4 nights a week). Or for something completely different Nyom Thai offers authentic Thai food either eat in or takeaway.

If you’re prepared to drive off the island the options are endless – from country pubs to a range of dining options in both Portsmouth & Chichester, or even the fabulous restaurants on the Goodwood Estate.

Reviews

We stayed at the Beach House in Hayling Island and were very impressed with the property. Sleeps 11 with 5 bedrooms and dog friendly, it suited us as a large family to unwind in beautiful surroundings. The upstairs to the property is very generous in size, allowing plenty of room to dine, cook, lounge and have fun. The upper balcony overlooks the sea and offers beautiful views day and night. The house comes with every amenity one could wish for and the owner was kind enough to fast-track some fans to us when the weather became hot! Simple touches, such as built in music speakers in the ceiling, tv options for the children and modern furnishings made for a very pleasant stay. Check-in was easy, with a hassle-free app to access the property and the owner stayed in touch and ensured we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Would definitely go back again. We miss spending our evenings on the upper deck, overlooking the ocean and star-gazing. Special thanks to Katie and Zoe for being brilliant and making the whole process super smooth 🙂

A truly fantastic family beach house in Hayling Island. A great entertaining space with amazing views of the Sea. Really well equipped with a great deal of thought given for lots of family fun inside and outside! There are a couple of really lovely pubs nearby (The Ship Inn) serving great food and Portsmouth isn’t too far to drive for bowling, the cinema or the famous dockyard! Cabins and Castles were amazing throughout the booking process and I would thoroughly recommend.

We stayed at Hayling House at the start of July. The house is beautifully put together with amazing views and a great location with the beach on your doorstep. We very much enjoyed our stay and it is a great spot for day trips to West Wittering, Chichester and Isle of Wight as well.

Just back from wonderful a long weekend at The Beach House. The team at Cabins & Castles were amazing and kept me in the loop on my booking at all times. The quality of the information on the website matched the property exactly. I would highly recommend them.
