Location

Pevensey is a delightful, ancient town, with a beach that tends to be quieter than most of those along this stretch of coast – and offers views to over the channel and around the curve of the coastline, to Eastbourne just to the right and towards Bexhill and Hastings to the left. The beach is mainly shingle but there is sand at low tide, so do pack your bucket and spade! History buffs might be interested to learn that this is where William the Conqueror landed in 1066, and may enjoy a visit to Pevensey Castle. Nearby Eastbourne (just 5 miles) and Hastings (11 miles) have a wide range of attractions from sailing and boat trips, to shopping, art and history. The South Downs Way is also within easy reach. London is about 1. 5hours by car and the closest train station is Pevensey Bay. Gatwick Airport is an hour away.

Things to do

Food & drink There is a huge variety of places to eat and drink, in and around Pevensey. This area is renowned for its country pubs; try the Lamb Inn at nearby Wartling, the War-Bill-In-Tun at Warbleton, or the Smuggler’s Inn in Pevensey itself. All are dog-friendly. Fusciardi’s Italian ice-cream parlour on Eastbourne seafront is like Fellini film set inside and serves excellent coffee as well as ice creams. The Beach Deck in Eastbourne is an unfussy venue with sea views and a beach terrace – great for burgers and steaks. While the marina to the east of Eastbourne, Sovereign Harbour, offers another whole selection of places to eat.

To do Water enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice; there are Channel diving excursions from Eastbourne, boat trips, sailing, or bring your kite surf and launch it directly in front of the house. There are a wide array of National Trust properties and gardens to visit – the Elizabethan gardens of Herstmonceaux Castle are of particular note. The South Downs Way is within easy reach, and Pevensey offers the inspiring 31 mile ‘1066 Country Walk’, which starts at Pevensey Castle, winds its way to Herstmonceaux, through to Battle and across the countryside to Rye. Neighbouring Hastings and Eastbourne offer a wealth of arts & cultural attractions, as well as plenty of fun for the family at Drusillas Park and the Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway.

Reviews

Just come back from a superb week with family, the cottage is immaculate, The owner has truly thought of everything, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Perfect for a chilled out break, toasting marshmallows by the fire while listening to the sea on the shingles, bliss!

We recently stayed at The Beach Hive in Pevensey Bay, which we found on Cabins and Castles website. We were really impressed with the accomodation, clean, comfortable, cosy and really well equipped and dog friendly. The added bonus was it was right on the beach front! What more could you want? It will definitely be visited again.

The garden is beautiful and is set right on the beach, me and Barney loved our early morning walks there. The setting is stunning with easy access into Eastbourne, Brighton etc.
I would highly recommend.

Outstanding cottage. Clean, very well stocked and very comfy. A true home away from home with beach front access and breath taking views of the sea.

We all enjoyed our stay at The Beach Hive – great location and so peaceful.
